Niharkona Rehabilitation Centre has stepped into its third year today, and it is with a certain degree of pride that I say that we have successfully taken responsibility for providing food and education to twenty shelterless children. We have also been able to enroll most of them into Government schools. However, everyday, after finishing their quota of meals and wrapping up their study sessions, they have to retire into the same decript make-shift hovels they called home. It is our ardent desire to at least try and provide them with some kind of permanent shelter- a roof of their own. We sincerely belive that if they are given these three basic amenities: shelter, food and education, they might never take recourse to illegal activities in the future. Instead, they will shed their inhibitions and step out to live like their privilged counterparts in this world. We will also ensure that by enrolling them into certain workshops, they develop the skills required for tailoring, nursing, handicrafts and other such ventures that would permit them to lead a financially secure and self-sufficient life. In order for their mental recreation, provisions for activities such as painting, elocution and dancing are also a part of the future plans of the organization. In order for all our dreams to come to fruition, I appeal to those of you who are financially-able, to step forward and assist us on this project.
